Racing Events - Club Information

In accordance with the definitions within the Racing Act 2002, Racing Queensland does not determine racing events involving animals other than Thoroughbred and Standardbred horses and Greyhound dogs to be racing events.

Racing Queensland acknowledges however, that there is growing participant support for alternate racing events and it is important for Clubs to explore ways to generate revenue for their Club outside traditional racing activities.

Given a large enough pool of horses and regular racing at some point in the future, there may be an opportunity for wagering to take place on these events however, Racing Queensland holds the current position on the matter.

Racing Queensland;

  • Does not deem it appropriate to provide dispensations to Racing Queensland’s licensed participants to be involved in such activities as they pose significant risk and unnecessarily complicates existing Insurance and Work Cover policies.
  • Deems alternate racing events as “exhibition events” and any arrangement a Club wish to enter into with another Racing Association/Organisation (e.g. Arabian, Quarter Horse) is a matter between that group and the Club.
  • Will not be party to these transactions, as these activities pose a risk to ongoing operations of Racing Queensland’s licensed racing.
  • Advises Clubs that they require a minimum of four (4) weeks’ notice prior to these events being conducted and will seek a waiver provision from the Club and Racing Association/Organisation organizing the event.

Clubs are asked to send their requests to their Racing Manager for initial approval;

  • Col Truscott (Country)
  • Ross Gove (TAB)
