Impressive Doomben winner A Man To Match will be set on a Queensland Derby path after breaking a luckless run to win the third heat of the Eagle Way 3YO Stayers Series.
The series, developed by Racing Queensland for trainers looking to test their three-year-olds ahead of next year’s Winter Carnival classics, will conclude with a $105,000 final over 2000m on December 22.
Trainer Tony Gollan said A Man To Match had been longing for the 2000m trip after two placings over the mile at the Sunshine Coast and Doomben.
“He’s a typical stayer, the more work you put into him the better he goes,” Gollan said.
A Man To Match is raced by Peachester Lodge’s Graham and Linda Huddy, who have enjoyed Derby successes with Preferment (VRC Derby) and Shoot Out (AJC Derby) previously.
“This series is awesome … we’ll give him a break and then set him for the Derby next year,” Gollan said.
Earlier, Jackson Murphy and Toby Edmonds brought up a winning double when Cadogan showed plenty of dash to win the 1MW-LY Handicap.
It came after the pair combined in Race 2 to win with Lulu Express, who got the nose down in a diving finish to beat the Jenny Graham trained I Wanna Be A Jeep.
