Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
GOALKICKER (2) worked home strongly from the 2nd line to claim a 2040m event at Redcliffe 2 starts back when wide off the track in the closing stages. Last start when again landing the 2nd line she was finding the line nicely when finishing 8m from FAME ASSURED in a strong contest. This looks ideal.
TORQUE FEELS GOOD (1) has placed in 2 runs back from a break with the latest when starting from this same gate over the mile. Releasing the front she used the passing lane when falling a half-head short of victory. With a cosy trip once again she can look for the closing shot.
MY ULTIMATE JOE (5) will strip fitter from his latest outing when returning from a spell. Starting from gate 10 he made an early error yet was still too strong. This is tougher but he can feature.
MAJOR SEASCAPE (6) returned with a flurry by claiming his 1st 2 starts back for the term at Redcliffe over the 1780 and then the 2040mHe found the line nicely last start and will be thereabouts again.
SELECTIONS: GOALKICKER (2), TORQUE FEELS GOOD (1), MY ULTIMATE JOE (5), MAJOR SEASCAPE (6)
SUGGESTED BET: GOALKICKER (2) to win
LEFT A TERROR (1) will be tightened from his return here last week when stepping out after a break of over 3 months. Settling in the running line from gate 6 he was hitting the line strongly to get within a half-head of the winner. The improved gate and added fitness are a huge plus.
ITZ MAJOR LOOK (4) made his Aus debut back on Nov 13 when stepping out from gate 6 at Menangle and struggling to work into the race in the closing stages. He trialled in good order to prepare for his Qld debut and from the gate will be in the mix.
MONTANA CHIEF (9) has started to put it all together after showing the potential but still very green. He hit the line hard from 3 back the pegs last start and can throw down the challenge here.
GODDESS JUJON (8) fought gamely last start when 2nd up from a break and after holding them wide in a sizzling 26.9 opener was able to see it out. With the cosy trip and added fitness she can go close.
SELECTIONS: LEFT A TERROR (1), ITZ MAJOR LOOK (4), MONTANA CHIEF (9), GODDESS JUJON (8)
SUGGESTED BET: LEFT A TERROR (1) to win
CAESARS ASTRUM (3) made the most of gate 1 on Sat night when leading all the way and staving off a late challenge over the 2138m in an Aspirational. That was just her 2nd win in Qld and her chances rest with being able to get the right cover in the run.
MISSINMEMATE (10) made a mess of things last start with an early error and then wasn’t completely comfortable in the run. Still chasing gamely to land 4th, he can be sharper in this.
GOOD BOY OLIVER (11) pressed ahead to find the front at Redcliffe 2 starts back over the 1780m trip and held on for the bronze behind TOOK YOUR TIME. Forget his last start, he can improve here.
SELECTIONS: CAESARS ASTRUM (3), MISSINMEMATE (10), GOOD BOY OLIVER (11)
SUGGESTED BET: CAESARS ASTRUM (3) to win
MAJESTIC MAJOR (7) faces a class drop into this and despite the wide gate can look to pack too many guns. He looked to have found his race here 2 starts back but was put away by BODHI TREE from the breeze. Only 6m from REMEMBER THEM last start, this looks his chance to bounce back.
IMTHE GOLDEN CHILD (1) will strip fitter following his latest run when 2nd up from a break. His return run saw him strike trouble and end his chances early. The latest effort from gate 1 over the sprint trip at Redcliffe saw him hold the inside advantage and lead throughout. This is harder but he can fight.
KOTARE YORK (2) was luckless last start and went to the line untested when unable to spot an opening. He can look to dart in behind the likely leader for a cosy trip and be making a closing shot.
COLD IDEAL (3) resumes from a break after tapering of last campaign. A winner here 5 starts back over the mile after securing the pocket trail, he will sharpen from whatever he achieves here.
SELECTIONS: MAJESTIC MAJOR (7), IMTHE GOLDEN CHILD (1), KOTARE YORK (2), COLD IDEAL (3)
SUGGESTED BET: MAJESTIC MAJOR (7) to win
POLISHED ROCKS (4) was a long way back in the pack last start and was hitting the line in good order when grabbing the bronze and finishing under 2m from the winner GASMONKEY. The start prior he was in the pocket trail when only 6m from BODHI TREE and this looks his chance to breakthrough
WHISKY BLAZE (10) found running line cover on Sat night and was charging home to get within 2m of the winner BATTLE BORN who took them all the way. Starting fav here 3 starts back he found the line nicely when 3m from the winner and will be swooping home hard again in this.
IMA GRUMPY POSSUM (2) was buried away on the pegs last start and too far back to make any ground with COLT THIRTY ONE ripping home from the front to score. With an improved gate she has claims.
FAT PROPHET (6) was working home wide off the track on Sta night when finishing 9m from the winner BATTLE BORN. Forced to work too hard here 2 starts back over the 2138m trip he can be around the mark in this.
SELECTIONS: POLISHED ROCKS (4), WHISKY BLAZE (10), IMA GRUMPY POSSUM (2), FAT PROPHET (6)
SUGGESTED BET: POLISHED ROCKS (4) to win
ACT OF VALOR (3) went straight to the front from gate 4 here last start and once he took control was bale to stave off all challengers and score by a neck. He scored a comfortable Redcliffe win 3 starts back and despite this being harder again, he can look to make the most of his opportunities.
MAJESTIC KIWI (5) was making his AP debut here last week when releasing over the 2138m and then when the passing lane arrived he had too much pace in space to go on to score. He should tighten from that win after a 3 week break between runs and can look for the back-to-back triumph.
KEY LARGO (10) has no favours from the 2nd line but is racing well after a win 3 starts back at Redcliffe and then placed at his past 2. He raced tough last start in the breeze and will be thereabouts.
PAY ME INTEREST (6) found the 1x1 trail start and after the right run in transit was able to swoop home over the top to score. That followed a tidy effort in a strong mares race and she has claims.
SELECTIONS: ACT OF VALOR (3), MAJESTIC KIWI (5), KEY LARGO (10), PAY ME INTEREST (6)
SUGGESTED BET: ACT OF VALOR (3) to win
TOM ME GUN (2) had a solid shot for the front last start in the 2138m Members Cup but the challenge was repelled and he faded late. Only beaten a neck when rundown by TRILIGHT BRIGADE in slick time 2 starts back, this looks his chance to pounce on the pegs and dictate.
MARK OF INTEGRITY (12) is luckless this Northern campaign after a mix of huge runs and bad alleys. Three-wide the trip here last week he was still giving when only 3m from GASMONKEY and backing-up Fri was 3rd after starting from gate 7. He has the hoof on the till, just needs a rub of the green.
MARETTI (10) has changed stables and will line up for Brian McCall for the 1st time in this. Last start when 3rd up from a break he threw down a strong challenge from the breeze when 2nd to SOMEMONDOSOMEWHERE who has won again. The gate hurts.
OASIS DREAM (1) was buried 3 back on the pegs here last start and when finding space was closing in good order to grab the bronze behind MAJESTIC KIWI. With a cosy trip he will be ready to take a closing shot.
SELECTIONS: TOM ME GUN (2), MARK OF INTEGRITY (12), MARETTI (10), OASIS DREAM (1)
SUGGESTED BET: TOM ME GUN (2) to win
THE BOYS GNP (4) shoots for the hat-trick after successive wins at the 2138m and then the mile. Off the 2nd line here last time he was wide off the track and finished over the top in good style. His win 2 back over the middle distance was an all the way effort in fine style and from the alley will be tough to knock over.
LENNY THE LEGEND (11) rolled forward from gate 5 over the 2138m here 2 starts back and after doing some early work found cover and then finished over the top. Finishing hard last start to grab the silver, he will be swooping late.
DANCE FOR GLORY (10) was after a hat-trick of victories last start when forced to do the hard yard three-wide. Not shirking the task he was strong to the line and only 6m away. He won’t be afar away.
SELECTIONS: THE BOYS GNP (4), JOSSIE JAMES (6), LENNY THE LEGEND (11), DANCE FOR GLORY (10)
SUGGESTED BET: EXOTICS 4-8-10-11
