DEAGON RACECOURSE REDEVELOPMENT

MASTERPLANNING PHASE

PRIMARY USE

EQUINE PRECINCT

  • Stabling for 200+ horses;
  • Equine training uses;
  • State training centre; 

(Apprentice jockeys, stable hands and associated industry services.)

SECONDARY USE

COMMUNITY / SPORTING USES

  • Sports facilities;
  • Community farm / Farmers markets.

DINING / SHOPPING / ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT

  • Retail outlets;
  • Small entertainment use;
  • Dining/cafe and other hospitality offerings.

DEAGON REDEVELOPMENT - ECONOMIC UPLIFT

  • Up to 900 construction jobs over the life of the project;
  • Up to 60 new racing jobs ongoing;
  • Injection of funds into local economy.

STATE TRAINING CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR RACING INCLUDING:

  • Horse stabling & vet services;
  • Short stay accommodation; and
  • Classrooms.

COMMUNITY AMENITY INCLUDING:

  • Shopping/markets;
  • Dining; and 
  • Entertainment.

LIVING OPTIONS INCLUDING:

  • Residential; and
  • Aged care/retirement.

Racing Queensland is seeking to be involved in the update of the plan to ensure both BCC and community objectives can be incorporated into the masterplan for Deagon Racecourse.

Brisbane City Council is updating the Sandgate District Neighbourhood Plan focusing on Sandgate, Deagon and Shorncliffe.

BCC is working with residents to identify key issues in the area. These include:

  • Provide housing choices suitable for residents at all stages of life in their local community;
  • Enhance lifestyle and leisure opportunities, with a focus on Moreton Bay foreshore;
  • Protect neighbourhood character, and character housing valued by the community;
  • Enhance the Sandgate district centre as a community hub; and
  • Protect the local environment.
