Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
SPEEDIE MCARDLE (7) will need plenty of luck from this gate but with some factors falling his way can look to be taking the closing shot with venom. He closed out hard last start from a long way back to be 3m from TOOK YOUR TIME. That followed a tidy effort from the 2nd line at Marburg. He just needs a rub of the green.
MACHEASY (10) is racing well and after doing plenty of work wide off the track last start was driving hard at the leader MR MEDDLE when getting within a nose of the victory. Only grabbed in the last strides by the in-form ANNA BAY AL in a qualifier 2 starts back, he will be right in the fight here.
FRENCH GLOBE (1) hit the line to score a nice win here 4 starts back and then fought hard from the breeze when only 1m from the winner at his next outing. With the options from the ace he can feature.
DRIVE THE DREAM (2) fought hard to get within a head of victory at Marburg 2 starts back. Last start she wasn’t ideally suited from the 2nd line and back to the front can be sharper in this.
SELECTIONS: SPEEDIE MCARDLE (7), MACHEASY (10), FRENCH GLOBE (1), DRIVE THE DREAM (2)
SUGGESTED BET: SPEEDIE MCARDLE (7) to win
WILLSINTOWN (1) pressed forward to find the front here last start over the 2280m trip and in a slogging go to the finish was fighting hard to be 3m from the winner. That followed a pair of tidy runs from 2nd line gates and with the options from gate 1 here looks to get his chance.
FEEL THE REIGN (3) added another minor placing to his tally last start to make it a top 3 in 11 of his past 12 starts. Working to the front last start from gate 4 he went down fighting when grabbed in the closing stages by MACH SAM. That was over 2280m and dropping back in trip he can go close.
FARRAHFOWLER (7) used the passing lane to hit the line strongly for 2nd behind LIVING GRAND here 2 starts back. Dropped to the pegs for a cheap run last start she swooped hard to score and with a peg run can look to repeat here.
COLOMBIAN GOLD (8) has been in great touch since arriving in Qld with wins in 2 of her 4 starts. Snagged back from gate 6 she flashed late to grab the win and will be probing for runs again.
SELECTIONS: WILLSINTOWN (1), FEEL THE REIGN (3), FARRAHFOWLER (7), COLOMBIAN GOLD (8)
SUGGESTED BET: Flexi trifecta 1-3-7-8
MATT BELFORD (10) has no favours from this gate after being banished to the outside draw as a result of his starting manners. He has however been meeting some much tougher opponents than he faces up to here. He did plenty of work last start behind VANDE VELDE and 3 back cut the breeze when 3m from GOT THE GOODS. Risky he is still worth a roll in this open contest.
TAP IT IN (5) pressed forward from gate 4 last start and tried to control the speed when grabbed in the closing stages to be a half-head from the winner. That made it 2 of his past 3 when grabbed in the closing stages and with this a shade easier he can look to throw down the challenge.
JACKS GAMBIT (4) has placed in 3 of his past 4 starts including a tough 1m 2nd from the breeze behind HUNTER RED. 3rd to VANDE VELDE last start he can look to ask some questions in this.
ITS YOU NOT ME (2) took the pocket trail from gate 1 last start and worked home well to be 2m from the winner. With the speed to be 1st to the pegs in this, he can be in the right spot to offer.
SELECTIONS: MATT BELFORD (10), TAP IT IN (5), JACKS GAMBIT (4), ITS YOU NOT ME (2)
MEANT TO BE ME (2) was having a dip for the front early last start at Marburg but threw in a few funky strides which saw her forced to retreat to find position. Not racing with much luck in recent starts, she gets the gat to use her early speed and finding the pegs can look to dictate.
SHERIFF JUJON (6) had been meeting much stronger opponents than he faces off against here prior to going for a spell. 7m from MACH SAM 2 starts back off a 2nd line gate he did plenty of work in the run last start. Given a pipe opener in a recent trial, he could take this if forward enough in condition.
BERTILS DELIGHT (1) took them all the way to score over the 1780m trip here 4 starts back from this same gate. Chasing from bad alleys in 3 runs since, the return to the ace gate is a big plus.
WEE JIMMY (3) found the line in good order here over the 2040m trip 2 starts back when finishing a 4m 3rd to OUR PEPPERJACK. Working too wide last start he is in the mix if finding early position.
SELECTIONS: MEANT TO BE ME (2), SHERIFF JUJON (6), BERTILS DELIGHT (1), WEE JIMMY (3)
SUGGESTED BET: MEANT TO BE ME (2) to win
MONTANA EXPRESS (10) started from gate 9 last start over the 1780m trip and working home wide off the track packed too many guns to score a 7m victory. That was a nice turnaround after being banished to the trials the start prior. Talented when he can get it right, he can take this if on his game.
WEASEL (9) faces a tricky gate but he can throw down a strong challenge if injected into proceedings against this field. Last start when working hard in the breeze he dug in for the fight when 2.5m from the winner. Not far off them in recent starts, this is within reach.
OOZINVILLE (8) has shown panels of improvement at his past 2 starts and with the right trail through in the early stages can look to build on that here. Hitting the line hard last start he has podium hopes.
TRAIN WRECK (6) was 1st up from a long break here last start and was forced to cover plenty of extra ground in the run. Fitter from that run and with better luck he can be thereabouts in this.
SELECTIONS: MONTANA EXPRESS (10), WEASEL (9), OOZINVILLE (8), TRAIN WRECK (6)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 6-8-9-10
IFYOUBELIEVE (9) has the tricky gate to negotiate but with even luck in transit might just be going well enough against these opponents to make the most of the opportunities. A nice winner at Marburg 4 runs back he has placed his past 2 from the 2nd line and looks well placed again here.
JENUFLECTION (3) worked home in good order here 2 starts back to grab the silver. Last start from inside the 2nd line she didn’t get the best of run but was still fighting hard to grab 4th behind HAPPY FEELINGS. Slowly starting to put it together, she looks to be in the mix in this.
POPS CHANGE (2) has been freshened since his last start when chasing home to grab the bronze behind FOR TONY. Looking to go all the way 2 starts back he was grabbed late and can be in the firing line here.
MAJORESS JUJON (5) was fighting to find a position 2 starts ago when snagged back and then fighting on well late. Doing some early work last start the run had merit and she has claims.
SELECTIONS: IFYOUBELIEVE (9), JENUFLECTION (3), POPS CHANGE (2), MAJORESS JUJON (5)
SUGGESTED BET: IFYOUBELIEVE (9) to win
KIWI SOLDIER (2) did his share of early work last start before fading in the closing stages. Placed in all 4 previous starts in succession, his run 2 back was solid for 3rd to ACT OF VALOR. This looks his easiest assignment for some time and from the gate looks to get his chance to cash-in.
WHATA STRIDE (4) has placed at her past 3 in succession and been no further than 2.5m from the winner at each. Buried away from inside the 2nd line last start she found the line in good order at Marburg and 3 back was only beaten a head. She has claims.
MYBELLA ROSE (10) released the front from gate 1 last start and chased gamely to finish mid-field behind MONTANA EXPRESS. Only beaten a half-head 2 starts back she can be thereabouts here.
GIGANTIC JASPER (6) has no favours from this gate yet should be tightened from his latest start when 2nd up in Qld. Off the 2nd line last start he didn’t have the cleanest run and can be sharper here.
SELECTIONS: KIWI SOLDIER (2), WHATA STRIDE (4), MYBELLA ROSE (10), GIGANTIC JASPER (6)
SUGGESTED BET: KIWI SOLDIER (2) to win
NO TRANSACTIONS (6) will strip fitter following his return from a break when stepping out at Marburg over the 220m off a 30m tape. Buried in the run the effort was sound and with this looking an easier contest he can look to step cleanly and throw down the challenge.
MONORAIL (7) found the 2613m trip a touch long last start and should take benefit of this trip. Giving 10m to the in-form NORTHERN MUSCLE didn’t help his cause either and despite coming from the 50m here, should appreciate this class of opponent and has claims.
HONEY PLEASE (1) has been freshened since her last outing when making an error and taking no part thereafter. With the benefit of the front tape she can look to step cleanly and give them something to chase.
TURN UP TRUMPS (5) stepped to the front last start at Marburg before releasing and then with the pocket trail held on for 2nd behind STONED AGAIN. Winless for over 3 years, he can look to place here.
SELECTIONS: NO TRANSACTIONS (6), MONORAIL (7), HONEY PLEASE (1), TURN UP TRUMPS (5)
SUGGESTED BET: NO TRANSACTIONS (6) to win
