Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
Defence Missile landed his third win in a row for Les Ross in the QTIS three-year-old Handicap at Doomben today.
Despite the horses recent success he had previously been a trouble child for the stable, in particular for apprentice Sheriden Tomlinson who suffered career threatening injuries when riding the horse at trackwork three and a half months ago.
Thankfully Tomlinson recovered and was on track to see Clayton Gallagher guide the gelding to another win.
Ross said the horse was originally bound for Hong Kong, before negotiations fell through.
But the in-form chest nut had morphed into a great money spinner for the stable.
"I've got about 267,000 reasons to be happy with him," Ross said in reference to his career earnings.
Jockey Clayton Gallagher said the horse was in a rich vein and was glad to be on him."
"He's fairly versatile, last time I rode him he got up on the rail, today I had to pull him to the outside and he seemed to appreciate the clean air."
