Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
Aerial shots show the progress made on a significant upgrade of the Rockhampton Greyhound Racing Club track which commenced on September 3.
Racing is scheduled to recommence on Wednesday, October 3, following works to remove the existing track to install a new reinforced base and racing surface designed to withstand all weather conditions.
The existing track was removed before a new base consisting of two geofabric layers either side of 150mm of road base was installed.
RQ approved racing sand will now be applied to the surface to have the track ready for scheduled trials on September 27.
The 407m and 510m starts have been repositioned to suit the new track design and the outside fencing will be replaced.
Racing Queensland Chief Operating Officer Adam Wallish thanked the Rockhampton Club and participants for their patience during the process.
“These significant upgrades will benefit all participants in central Queensland and aim to vastly improve both greyhound safety and racing quality at the Rockhampton club,” he said.
The works to upgrade the track at Rockhampton follow works earlier this year to replace the former Bramich Lure System with a new cable-driven system, which was also implemented at Townsville Greyhounds in June.
